Final Project: Sense of Place

  2. Ok, so I'm just going to come out and say it: you made me cry, Spence. Now I could claim that it was because I was listening to Jason Derulo as I watched your slideshow (first day of class song:), but that isn't the reason. When I asked for a sense of narrative, I should have known you'd deliver! The progression of images, coupled with their framing, perspective, and color story, offers a clear idea that there was a journey taken. This photo essay is like reading a private journal entry that considers the length of (what on the outside) appears to only span a month but in truth reflects on a life lived to this point and the path from this point forward. I'm proud of you for taking the free fall:

    Have Ithaka always in your mind.
    Your arrival there is what you are destined for.
    But don't in the least hurry the journey.
    Better it last for years,
    so that when you reach the island you are old,
    rich with all you have gained on the way,
    not expecting Ithaka to give you wealth.
    Ithaka gave you a splendid journey.
    Without her you would not have set out.
